Motivational Interviewing 2: Advanced Skill Practice, 8 hours
Learning to use Motivational interviewing (MI) is a process, not an event. Becoming familiar with and using the relationship-building model often takes adjustment in a probation officer’s style and perception of the job itself. This course includes review of MI and its place in Evidence-based Practice, and participants self assess their own styles and abilities. Most importantly, they identify areas they’d like to improve. Active listening is revisited. This class is very active and includes intense skill building and feedback from both the instructor and participants’ peers. Case studies are used to create a realistic atmosphere.
