Detention Officer Ethics, 8 hours

new course

There are classification issues, changes in inmate profile and length of stay, operational and systems changes, and new methodologies. Correctional officers are responding to a host of realities that have been forced upon them, and this course creates a space for examining the challenges related to the changes in our jails. More importantly, this interactive course invites an in-depth examination of the ethics around developing a more flexible, open-minded perspective to the workplace and change itself. Fiscal ethics and ethics surrounding accountability are also covered. This course creates a dialogue about professional ethics, what it means to move forward with the business of the work itself, and how specific staff behavior makes it possible for the department to carry out its mission. This course connects how individual behavior redirects that course and determines its outcome.
