The Mentally Disordered Population We Serve: Effective Skills, 8 Hours

One of the most useful skills social services staff can hone is their ability to communicate effectively and to engage the mentally disordered client in a productive, safe, and insightful manner. Increasingly, the population we serve live with challenging mental disorders that may be very perplexing to some staff. This course teaches participants who work in varied assignments how to understand behaviors displayed by the mentally disordered and respond safely and effectively. Staff learn to identify behaviors that are associated with mental disorders and practice the communication strategies that are most helpful. This course supports participants in how to increase their levels of empathy, to understand mental illness, and trains staff what NOT to say and how NOT to behave and why. This is an effective course: this perishable skills course uses realistic and typical workplace scenarios.
