Sara Bonilla

Sara Bonilla retired as a Supervising Probation Officer from the Sacramento County Probation Department after 24 years of service. Sara’s assignments within the probation department were as a court officer, an armed field officer, a training officer, and as a supervisor in the Youth Detention Facility. Some of her assignments required courtroom testimony as to the Batterers Treatment Program Certification Officer, as well as Field Work testimony as a Special Deputy United States Marshal when she was a part of the SAFE (Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement) team. One of her proudest achievements was being part of the Youth Detention Facility Training Academy that taught all new employees starting in their careers. Her training courses ranged from POST 832PC, Cultural Diversity, Community CPR/First Aid, introduction to the Adolescent Brain, and Crisis Intervention Strategies. While employed as an officer, Sara obtained her master’s degree in organizational leadership in Education and started a doctoral program in Psychology. Her current Doctoral dissertation interests involve Compassion fatigue in officers and its effect on health. Since her retirement, Sara continues her Ph.D. pursuits and lives with her family in rural Northern California.
