Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion scrutinizes potential stereotypes and/or implicit biases staff might hold toward groups including African American, Latinx, Asian Americans, LGBTQI+, repeat offenders; those with disabilities or mental health and substance abuse disorders; and those with alarming amounts of ACEs; and more. With potential personal prejudices “in check,” the course then turns to teach effective communication strategies and listening skills to better equip DPOS and/or Facilities staff to facilitate the reintegration of all probationers, no matter their varied backgrounds, and to provide the skills necessary to interact effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
