Probation officers are consistently exposed to clients who present with psychological, mental, and behavioral issues. Dealing and interfacing with clientele with these stressors can lead to traumatic experiences. These incidents and repetitious events often lead to empathic burnout and overall fatigue. This course explores stress triggers, types, and various levels of trauma. Probation officers learn and are able to use engaging language with which to speak to each other and others outside the profession about the stress and trauma of the corrections work environment. Participants are exposed to tools and tactics that teach how to exercise self-care behaviors, so they may stay healthy for the length of their career. The intention of this course is department change consisting of ways to address and encourage future, employee-centered dialogue about work-related issues and how to seek both advice and help in a time of real need. The course trains staff to deal in healthier ways to the stressors and trauma of the career.
