Building Trust and Morale in Probation Departments

STC class

All probation departments in our state share common visions- to create a safe, trusting, and inclusive environment developing a culture of trust and maintaining positive morale. Working with at-risk, resource-draining populations is inherently challenging but coupled with a work environment with low trust levels and low morale is even more daunting. High-level leadership includes periodic staff recognition, development of partnerships, personal identification of positive outcomes, and personal opportunities for growth, training, and career development. With the development of higher levels of trust and higher levels of morale, absenteeism may be decreased, and team member learning retention can be positively impacted. Everyone wants to be on a winning team, be cared for, learn, and be thought of as important. This way teams can remain active longer and create higher outputs for sustainable lengths of time. For positive outcomes, trust and morale must be addressed to create team cohesion and unity at all levels of leadership.
